About Extra
Extra is one of the best WordPress magazine themes released by Elegant Themes. Elegant Themes is your one-stop hub for premium WordPress themes and plugins.
Extra is powered by Divi’s drag and drop builder framework. The Divi builder helps you to easily alter the look and feel of your posts and pages with just a few clicks.
Extra is bundled with lots of new Divi builder modules that are specifically created for the needs of bloggers and online publications.
Features of Extra
Just like any other theme built on the Divi builder framework, Extra allows you to customize any element on your posts and pages. Along with the usual Divi builder feature, Extra gives you a new option known as Category Builder, so you can easily alter the design of your homepage and other category layouts. Here are some of its amazing features.
Bundled With Divi Builder
With Divi builder’s drag and drop interface, you can easily create beautiful story driven posts and pages.
In your WordPress page and post editor, you can add your content using the default editor and customize the layout using its visual builder interface.
Endless Possibilities to Customize Layouts
The Extra theme also comes with a Category Builder with a brand new set of post-based modules.
This helps you to customize every element of your layouts, whether it is your homepage or category page, per your needs.
Magazine Styled Homepage
In the Extra theme, two category layouts are created by default. They are Default Category and Homepage.
You can view these categories by navigating to Extra » Category Builder. To edit your homepage, just click on the edit button below the homepage option.
With the Divi’s drag and drop builder, you can now add any post modules and change the appearance of your homepage the way you want.
Beautiful Featured Posts Slider
With Extra, you can easily create sliders on the homepage and other page layouts that source content from a specified set of posts.
After adding the featured post module to your category layout, you can customize the settings and change its appearance.
By default, only featured posts are shown in the slider. You’ll either need to mark certain posts as a featured post or disable the featured post option and choose a specific category of posts to show in the slider.
3 Navigation Menus
The theme supports 3 navigation menus: Primary, Secondary and Footer Menu. You can create different menus and choose which menu to appear in each location.
Extra also comes with a set of custom mega menus that display the recent or favorite posts directly in the dropdown menu.

Our Score
Elegant Themes Extra theme is best suited for those who want to make lots of customization on their blog themes without hiring a WordPress developer.
Its drag and drop builder lets you create any kind of pages with ease. Additionally, you can use the drag and drop builder to work on your categories with a new set of modules.
The only downside is that every module you creates using the Divi builder will create a shortcode in your page. If you decide to switch to a new theme from Divi, you’ll likely need to spend a significant amount of time to get rid of those shortcodes from your page.
